Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum) |
![]() |
Origin is the southern islands of Japan. High-light levels should be provided to prevent flower drop. Place plants near a south, west or east facing window. Do not place Easter lilies in direct sunlight. Temperature should be maintained between 18 and 24° C. Keeping temperatures cooler at night will make blooms persist. Water thoroughly and keep plants moderately moist. Pay close attention to soil moisture as leaf-drop will occur if plants are allowed to dry out excessively. Do no let plants sit in water. Easter lilies are sensitive to ethylene and should not be stored with fresh fruits or vegetables. Anthers (internal flower part that carries pollen) should be picked off as blooms open. This will prevent pollen from staining. Spent blooms should be taken off as they become unsightly. Once finished blooming the Easter lily should be discarded as smaller flowers and less vigorous growth results from the re-use of bulbs. |
